Overnight Oats

By Sami Sweeney May 7, 2014

So as you may have guessed by now, oatmeal is a favorite of mine and surely a repeat in my kitchen, especially at school before a busy day! Lately I have been really into the overnight oats craze and realizing it is not only delicious, but an excellent time saver! Side note: I’ve always been known to wake up early so I could have breakfast, but I understand not everyone is a morning person like me, so this is a way to combat that “no time for breakfast” excuse I always get.

Overnight oats are one of my new favorites and of course I add to the total hipsterness of it by doing it in a mason jar. I know cliche, but so great to wake up to this cute, deliciousness in the morning! In the evening I get out my mason jar and mix 1/2 cup gluten free rolled oats and 1 cup skim milk in and simply put in the refrigerator! See it’s that simple! However, I have been adding to this recipe by also adding 1/4 cup unsalted almonds and 1 cut up small apple into the jar as well. I previously added these in in the morning and decided to try the overnight portion with all of it together and it worked out wonderfully! I have been eating my oats cold in the morning, but they can also be heated up in the microwave if you like that better. Other add in options are bananas, blueberries, raspberries, etc. and other types of nuts or even raisins! Seriously the options are endless!

This is what mine looked like when I tried it with a banana… so good 🙂

Hope you enjoy and also I hope that this helps those of you crunched for time in the morning have an opportunity to start your morning off right with a delicious, healthy, and filling breakfast!
