“A Perfect 14” A Documentary on ‘Plus-Size’ Models

By Melody Darlene May 7, 2014

Models Elly Mayday, Laura Wells and Kerosene Deluxe are the subjects in the new documentary, A Perfect 14, where they fight to reshape the world of fashion and the standards of society. The documentary discusses weightism and the narrative behind the word “Plus-Size.” As one woman in the trailer explains, “The word ‘Plus-Size’ is always moving around on the scale. Really, what does it do other than make people very conscious of their size?”

A Perfect 14 is a film that exposes a world which people know very little about, a world of women fighting against traditions and obsolete standards, a world of women revealing beauty through diversity, a world of models representing a large group in society that has been neglected and forgotten for years by the fashion industry and the mass media.

This film follows the journeys of three plus-size models as they struggle against the distorted perception of body image that is being perpetuated in people’s minds. These women share their personal experiences of challenges and successes to help empower themselves and others to eradicate the currently held standards of beauty. In addition to being successful models they are also driven to make a positive impact in the world. (via)

We’re advocates of positive body image and loving the skin you’re in, so we’re really excited for this documentary to see the light of day!  The creators of the film are raising money on their Indiegogo page to cover their post-production expenses, so head on over and support the film.
