5 New and Fun Ways to Work Out This Month

By Gabriella Diesendorf October 7, 2015

Let’s skip the introduction about how important it is to work out. Everyone should exercise. It gives you more energy, boosts your mood, and in the long run, by keeping in shape you are prolonging your life. It is always easier to stay healthy when you are engaged in the activity. I found a handful of exciting ways to work out without even knowing it.

1. Rock Climbing

Okay, I’m opening this list with a far from new activity, but rock climbing is now more popular than ever. You can certainly find an indoor rock climbing center near you that will provide you with the much needed equipment and protective gear. Of course, you should always start in indoor settings, and work your way up to an actual Mount Everest. This is a great way to build your upper body.

2. Qi Gong

Maybe this list should have been called ancient fitness, because this method of exercise is more than 3, 000 years old. If you’ve never heard of it, don’t worry, it’s just getting reintroduced as a slower style of a work out. If you are into meditation, Tai Chi and yoga, you will love Qi Gong as well. Combining breathing, balance and martial arts, it is a group workout that will help you burn calories and relieve stress.

3. Zumba

During the 1990s, a Columbian dancer, Alberto Perez, invented this fun dance fitness workout. Today, Zumba is a worldwide phenomenon and taught in more than 200,000 locations worldwide. Joining various styles of dance, hip hop, samba, salsa, mambo and aerobic elements, this form of exercise offers different levels of intensity so you can find a class perfect for you.

4. Trampoline Fitness

I couldn’t leave out trampoline fitness. If you were looking for an excuse to let off some steam and feel like a kid again, there is no better way to do so than to head to a trampoline. It is a wonderful way to relieve stress and you can even add boxing or Pilates techniques to engage more muscles.

5. Live Action Role Playing

This is pretty much a self-explanatory form of exercise, and you probably heard about LARPING if you are, well, “a little bit nerdy” like me. These events are totally fun and a great motivator to get geeks outside instead of in front of a computer.
