“Dear Diary”… Signed a Former College Athlete

By Admin March 11, 2019

Dear Diary,

I must admit I strangely miss waking up at 6 a.m to lift weights and looking like a bum all day. I miss rocking the sweatpants with my school’s logo, crisp clean Nike shoes, and my Adidas slides, don’t get me wrong I still dress the same but now I really really look like a bum!

But also being a college athlete is not for the faint of heart, because let’s be real as crazy as I may be no one likes to spend early mornings lifting crazy amounts of weights, hot spring afternoons running timed sprints, and late nights catching up on crazy amounts of school work.

Even though I only played college lacrosse for a year it drained me. Yes, I was active every day but being active every day does not mean you are happy and healthy. At this point in my life, I was the saddest I had ever been. I was drained: Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I was at the peak of my athletic ability but I was so exhausted.

You always hear people say how playing sports in college is such a big accomplishment and yes it is, I was blessed to play division 2 but no one ever tells you how hard it will hit you and I applaud all the people who play and continue to play! So yes I miss doing all those crazy drills but I choose my mental health over looking good in a bikini. And to all that play a college sport currently or who have played, I congratulate you. And to those who will be embarking in the journey remember that you have the power to do so much and more. You are the creator of your story.

Xoxo,

A Former College Athlete
