A New Year… A Newer & Even Better You

By The Body Department January 10, 2018

The new year always speaks new thinking and new visions for yourselves. You think about who you are but mostly who you have the potential to be. “What things can I change? What should I work on this year? What goals do I want to achieve?” Even the thought of the new year usually sparks new-you ideals. It’s as if the once the clock struck 2018, a new you arose from the ashes like a phoenix. Sounds a bit over-dramatic but a new you can totally be reality. The new year is all about a fresh start and with the right tools you can transform into a better you!

Here are some tips to help you start habits that will help you stay on track throughout the year.

1. Buy and use a bulleted planner.

This isn’t your ordinary planner, this is a cool planner. (Did you read that in Regina George’s mom voice or no?) Any way by using a bulleted agenda book or planner, you not only can list out your goals and resolutions, you can also prioritize them. By prioritizing your listed goals, you can detail the dates you wish to accomplish them. It will help you see which goals you can start small with also so that you don’t overwhelm yourself.

2. Set due dates for yourself and your goals.

Not only is this a mind trick, its a hack to hold yourself accountable without realizing. By listing and prioritize your goals (see #1), the due dates you add will help you figure out which  goals are attainable for the short term and which ones for the long term.

3. Create a digital vision board. Save as your computer background.

We’re firm believers of the power of vision boards over here. There’s nothing like laying out exactly what you want and forcing yourself to see it everyday. The more you can visualize what you want, the more you think and internalize it thus increasing your chances of acquiring it. Hello, law of attraction! Even though vision board parties are fun, its even more convenient to create the vision board collage on your computer and save as the background. We’re always on our computers and as soon as you turn it on, bam! its right there starting you in the face. You and your goals staring each other in the face daily. It can be a bit eerie at the end of the year when you see that you’ve acquired some or most of the things on the vision board you created at the start of the year. You will not only feel super accomplished but slightly creeped out in a good “the Universe is working in my favor” kind of way.

4. Increase your water intake in the morning.

Start your day off hydrated with water before coffee. I know, I know. Even thinking about anything other than coffee first is a sin in some parts of the world but trust us, water is king. When you drink water in the morning before eating, you help to purify your colon, allowing nutrients to be absorbed more easily. Having a water bottle close by helps… there’s nothing like our Thirsty AF water bottle. Just sayin’!

5. Type out creative ideas into your phone.

Recent studies show that 50 percent of Americans keep their phone near them during every moment of their waking hours, and 50 percent of them check their phone at least several times an hour. There’s so much opportunity to type down new thoughts than can develop into new ideas. Who knows perhaps a random thought you had in an uber gets developed into a cool life-changing app!

6. Practice gratitude and prioritize healthy habits.

The best way to reap the benefits of gratitude is to notice new things you’re grateful for every day. Gratitude journaling works because it slowly changes the way we perceive situations by adjusting what we focus on. You’ll realize that you start to focus more on what you have as opposed to what you lack. Being excited about the benefits of gratitude can be a great thing because it gives us the kick we need to start making edits towards what we can change.
